From Potential to Power: Designing Your Career with Intent, Influence & Investment
I recently had the opportunity to lead a session with the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility titled “From Potential to Power: Designing Your Career with Intent, Influence & Investment.”
This conversation was created for high-potential Hispanic corporate achievers who are asking important career questions: What’s next for me? How do I grow with intention? Who needs to be part of my support system? And how do I move from performing well to designing a career that truly reflects my values, goals, and purpose?
Throughout the session, we explored three key strategies: intent, influence, and investment. Intent helps us move beyond simply “going with the flow” and begin mapping our careers with clarity. Influence reminds us that careers do not grow alone—we need allies, mentors, sponsors, and coaches who can support our growth in different ways. Investment invites us to see coaching, career planning, and leadership development as intentional choices that accelerate clarity, confidence, and impact.
One of the most important reminders from this conversation is that high performance is not the same as career clarity. You can be doing well and still need space to ask deeper questions about where you want to go next. Your talent may open doors, but strategy, visibility, and support systems help you thrive once you’re inside.
This session was especially meaningful because it allowed me to share the guidance I wish I had received earlier in my own career: your career is not a waiting game. You design it, you own it, and you invest in it.
